I always look forward to visiting Norfolk Botanical Garden. As are most well-tended gardens, Norfolk Botanical Garden is a place where a visitor can get pleasantly lost in a variety of habitats and let the mind wander. As an artist, I find inspiration in the large blooms of the water lilies and the magnificent towering magnolia trees dotted with lovely pale-yellow flowers.

Strolling through the Garden is relaxing and at times, full of surprises. During our visit, we had a “Funky Fungi” experience during which we learned a lot about the various kinds of mushrooms and their benefits to the environment. In addition to becoming more educated, we were pleasantly surprised to see quite a large variety of mushroom art exhibited throughout the Enchanted Forest section of the Garden.

After taking the time to appreciate each exhibit, we found ourselves in the butterfly house and being on the lookout for wayward caterpillars on the path. There were many varieties of butterflies fluttering about, and several knowledgeable staff and volunteers available to answer question.

We said farewell to the Garden and I had plenty of inspiration to create whimsical nature-themed fiber art!
My advice for those who are looking for creativity boost is to get outside and find the inspiration you need in nature!
